Yorkshire Tennis Coaching

These tennis lessons allow players with different abilities to improve their game.

 

• Complete beginner (never played tennis before)

• Beginner (someone who has played before but hasn't been shown the basics and can't rally more than 5 shots)

• Improver (someone who can rally and is familiar with the game but lacks consistency and technical knowledge)

• Intermediate/Advanced (someone who has got a good foundation, can play competitive tennis, but needs improving the technical, strategic or physical side of the game).

 

Lesson plan

Each lesson contains the elements highlighted below. However, some steps may be skipped if you are improver or Intermediate/Advanced level.

• Warm-ups and stretching

Each session starts with warm-ups and stretching, mainly to prevent injuries. .

• Passive warm-ups

• Active warm-ups

• Stretching

 

Complete beginner:

• Explain the main rules in tennis

• Strokes - explain and demonstrate the basic shots in tennis: forehand, backhand, serve and volley.

• Grips - explain the different grips used in the game. Teach how to hold the racket and what grip to use.

• Progressions - focus on the technical side of the game. Step by step exercises teaching the player the basics of each shot, such as:  ready position, preparation, footwork and movement around the court, racket path, contact point and finish.

• Rallies - allow the players to practise the technical knowledge from the progression. There are different rallies and games used throughout the lessons testing the player’s skills focusing on improving the techniques.

• Tactics - doubles and singles tactics, match situations, footwork and lots of friendly atmosphere.

 

Locations:

The lessons can take place at a location of your choice. Public tennis courts are free, however other places my charge for renting the court which will be added to the cost of the lesson.
